The man whose landmark purchase of pizza with Bitcoin nine years ago is celebrated annually as Bitcoin Pizza Day is about to re-enter mainstream headlines, this time to appear on the CBS 60 Minutes segment in an exclusive with legendary CNN journalist and 60 Minutes correspondent Anderson Cooper.

On 22 May 2010,  Laszlo Hanyecz of Jacksonville Florida made history by purchasing two large pizzas. He paid pizza joint Papa Johns 10,000 Bitcoins, today worth a staggering USD 73 million.

While undoubtedly a well-known celebrity among Bitcoin communities, Hanyecz will now truly get the mainstream treatment by appearing on one of the most watched TV shows in North America and interviewed by one of the most respected media personalities in the Western world.

An excerpt from the interview reveals a man who is happy and proud to be part of Bitcoin history, yet who rather humanly avoids lingering on price comparisons so as not to feel regret:

Cooper: “That’s USD 800 million [erroneous, Cooper meant USD 80 million, Bitcoin price at the time was USD 8,000]. You spent about USD 800 million on pizza?”

Hanyecz: ” “Well, if you look at today’s exchange rate.”

Cooper: “Are there nights you wake up “where you think, ‘I could have had $800 million… if I hadn’t bought those pizzas?’”

Hanyecz: “I think thinking like that is… not really good for me.”

The episode airs this Sunday to estimated millions of viewers, 19 May 2019 at 7.00pm EST (11.00pm UTC).
