Taiwan-based smartphone manufacturer HTC has announced the presale of the much-anticipated blockchain smartphone Exodus 1 according to the company’s official Twitter account.
The official announcement by the company was made during a Web3 summit in Berlin that took place on Oct 22-24. According to the HTC announcement on its website, early versions of the phone can be claimed via cryptocurrencies BTC and ETH only. The phone is made available around 34 countries in the world including US, UK, and Hong Kong. The price itself for the new blockchain phone is set around $960 and the shipping date has been set at December 2018.

While the new blockchain phone is being heralded as a bold move forward by the smartphone manufacturer from Taiwan, the company is keen on building a community of developers and enthusiasts to help improve and build security features that will make it a secure phone.
HTC was one of the first companies to announce the development of new blockchain phones earlier this year back in May. The company also revealed that the phone will support multiple blockchain protocols and networks including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Lightning Network (LN) and Dfinity Network. It is also slated to have a universal cryptocurrency wallet for ease of use. HTC also announced that the phone will support the popular CryptoKitties game that was based on Ethereum.
According to HTC’s decentralization chief officer Phil Chen, each phone will behave like a network node to facilitate cryptocurrency trading as well. However, the wide-ranging promises by HTC may not be fully kept in the first version of the phone that is coming out this December. While a secure wallet is reportedly being added that is protected from the Android OS, the other promised features are reportedly lacking in the phone.
