The variety and number of stores that accept cryptocurrencies as a form of payment have seen a remarkable increase in Slovenia and Croatia.

Elipay, developed by startup company Eligma, is an IOS- and Android-backed mobile app for crypto payments incorporated by a whopping 300 hundred stores in Slovenia. In Croatia, following central bank approval, the spectrum of cryptocurrency usage as a mode of payment has also broadened. Bitcoin City, which is one of Central Europe’s largest and most significant commercial areas, has over 500 stores which use Elipay. These shops currently accept Bitcoin, BCH, ETH, and Eligma’s native ELI tokens.

Eligma CEO Roljic said:

“The number of Elipay locations is constantly increasing. Elipay now covers most service and product categories: food and drinks, fashion, electronics, services, sports and leisure, entertainment, home and garden, toys and kids, pets, auto and moto, travel, adult, online stores, and other.”

One of the largest payment providers in Croatia, namely Billy, has integrated Elipay into its system. The CEO stated that the system will then be tested and re-evaluated followed by an evaluation of the technical documentation to prevent any issues in future updates.

Through flourishing businesses that can push for cryptocurrency usage, widespread adoption is facilitated, which would help to further develop blockchain technology.

Bitcoin City said: “Bitcoin City will create an open society which will enable users to pursue their missions as well as develop their business environments in line with their wishes, needs and operating policies.”

On 5 April, the latest addition to Elipay, Intaxi, was announced which allows taxi rides within and beyond the capital city to be paid for in cryptocurrencies. And, with recent other partnerships via its tech arm Eligma Labs, such as that with global media leader and blockchain advisory AmaZix, Eligma appears to be preparing to spread its wings beyond Central Europe.
