- Spain is setting up a research team to use a blockchain app to control the spread of COVID-19
A research team in Spain consisting of over 100 people is working towards developing an app that uses artificial intelligence and blockchain technology to forecast the growth in the number of COVID-19 cases and to better control lockdown steps.
The app has the support of the Institute of Biomedical Research of Salamanca and the Artificial Intelligent Research Institute and it uses blockchain to store and check the digital identities of people to perform essential activities such as paying a visit to a grocery store. The way this works is that every identity will be stored in the form of a certificate that will be stored on the ledger. A person will have the private key to their own identity.
“The technology will be able to support healthcare professionals and public health officials by providing them with information that can be used when making decisions. For example, if the data shows an increase in COVID-19 cases, officials can decide whether to shelter-in-place.”
