Bytom public blockchain has announced the launch of the 2019 Bytom Dev Competition that will see teams of blockchain developers from around the globe compete for the first-place prize of $30,000 out of a total prize pool worth $100,000.

Bytom DevCon 2

After a resoundingly successful 2018 developer competition that took place in Hangzhou China, which drew applications from almost 100 teams across the U.S, Europe, South Korea, and China, the Bytom DevCon is back for its second installment. This year, teams from India, Zambia, Venezuela, the U.S, and Taiwan have registered, signaling the explosive global growth of blockchain technologies in the past year.

Teams can continue to sign up until August 2nd, 2019 here.

DevCon 2 is set to bring in new talent and enhance the development capabilities of Bytom, which will evolve Bytom’s open-source ecosystem. This bears significance as according to an official press release from Bytom:

Bytom public blockchain is an interactive protocol of multiple byte assets. Heterogeneous byte-assets (indigenous digital currency, digital assets) that operate in different forms on the Bytom Blockchain and atomic assets (warrants, securities, dividends, bonds, intelligence information, forecasting information and so forth) can be registered, exchanged, gambled and engaged in other more complicated and contract-based interoperations via Bytom.”

Competition Details

With a total prize-pot worth 100,00 USD, teams of no more than five members will be required to create an open-source code in the “individuals” category; for the “enterprise” category, the press release states that whilst an open-source code is not required, it is however required that teams create a “more complete” final product.

The reward structure is as such:

First Prize * 1: 30,000 USD equivalent BTM

Second Prize * 2: 10,000 USD equivalent BTM

Third Prize * 3: 5,000 USD equivalent BTM

Recognition Award * 10: 3,000 USD equivalent BTM

More specifically, the official competition guidelines state:

  • Each participant group should include no more than 5 members. Individual participants can team up freely, but everyone can only join one group and cannot enter the competition repeatedly.
  • Entries must be completed independently. No cheating or infringement of intellectual property is allowed. Entrants failing in doing so will be disqualified.
  • Projects must be built on Bytom ecosystem or Bytom smart contract.
  • Entrants must submit projects developed based on Bytom. After being reviewed by the Organizing Committee, it will be selected to enter the competition for further improvement.
  • Before a submission is closed, entrants can keep improving their projects, but cannot change the topic. The final entry should be based on the latest version submitted before the submission deadline. (If there are important reasons that cannot be submitted before the deadline, please contact the official in advance, but no later than August 8th, so as not to affect the official final list.)
  • Entries must be submitted in the prescribed form. Otherwise, they will be phased out directly. Please upload your codes on GitHub.
  • Anyone belonging to the organizers of the event and members of judgement cannot take part in the competition.

With such a fluid blockchain available for talented developers to tinker with, Bytom is seeking to have developers establish a new paradigm in which its blockchain will serve the public in a bid to bring prosperity both economically and for society.
