When oil spiked during the 1980 energy crisis, New Zealand asked its citizens to pick 1 day of the week when they couldn’t drive. They had to use stickers on their car to show this, and if they didn’t listen, they were fined. The government even limited the times citizens could buy fuel.
It’s happening now, too, in different ways and slowly:
- Chrystia Freeland (the finance minister of Canada) says to curb inflation, families should cancel their Disney+ subscriptions.
- American citizens are being asked to limit their electricity.
- The DOE (Department of energy) is evaluating energy usage to try and impose new restrictions on air conditioners.
The banks caused this crisis, and now they’re asking us to limit our energy/subscription services instead of taking accountability themselves and explaining to the population what actually happened. I’m sure the North American population (who isn’t spoiled at all) will love when they get told to save on food costs they should eat 2 meals per day.
