Unbank is pleased to announce it has backed BTCPay Server Foundation with a grant of $25,000. The grant was paid in bitcoin and will allow the foundation to continue the development of new features.
BTCPay Server offers open-source software that allows acceptance of bitcoin payments with zero fees and no trusted third-parties.
The project was brought to life by Nicolas Dorier in 2017 to provide a free and open-source payment processor alternative to BitPay, which constrained Bitcoin merchants to the Segwit2x upgrade.
Unbank, a cash-focused bitcoin exchange, is utilizing BTCPay Server to process bitcoin transactions in their app as well as on their ATMs.
Founded in 2014, Unbank has become a leading bitcoin ATM network with over 830 ATMs and over 30,000 partner locations allowing users quick and easy on and off-ramping to bitcoin.
When users want to sell bitcoin, they send the amount they want to convert to an address generated with BTCPay Server. Once confirmed, users receive the dollar equivalent instantly to their bank or Venmo account, or they can pick it up at a location nearby.
Unbank’s commitment to financial inclusion and open-source technology aligns with BTCPay Server’s core values of open and permissionless innovation.
Building Non-Custodial Bitcoin Solutions
Unbank’s non-custodial service architecture reduces third-party risk and gives users control over their funds. BTCPay Server has allowed Unbank to build robust and secure applications without additional counterparty risk.
By leveraging BTCPay Server’s API for processing Bitcoin cashouts through their app, Unbank demonstrates a practical application of FOSS bitcoin technology in a real-world, high-volume setting.
Shared Vision for Financial Freedom
The grant from Unbank not only provides crucial financial support but also represents a strong endorsement of BTCPay Server’s mission. Both organizations are committed to making bitcoin accessible to everyone, and easy to use.
R0ckstar Dev, a core contributor to BTCPay Server, expressed gratitude for the grant, stating:
“Unbank’s support is a testament to the growing recognition of open-source payment solutions in the Bitcoin ecosystem. This grant will help our efforts to enhance BTCPay Server’s capabilities and reach.”
