SAN SALVADOR, January 9, 2025 – Mi Primer Bitcoin is launching its updated and revised Bitcoin Diploma. This 2025 edition of the Student Workbook highlights the continued efforts to provide high quality bitcoin educational tools for community-led projects worldwide.
This 176-page diploma book, divided into 10 chapters and intended for a 10-week learning program, is a testament to the goal of bringing open source Bitcoin education to the world.
All materials are publicly available on GitHub, and every individual is invited and encouraged to participate in the translation of this new flagship.
The changes of this 2025-edition compared to the previously released Bitcoin Diploma 2024 are minor. Reyna Chicas, the Director of Education of My First Bitcoin and in charge of all open source curricula, explains:
“Out of over 150 pages, we’ve updated less than 3% of the content in the 2025 Bitcoin Diploma, including minor grammar corrections, improved visuals like the infographic on page 37, and enhancements to the Bitcoin Diploma Story.”
Additionally, the Bitcoin Diploma now includes a page that lists all the sponsors that donated either to the Geyser campaign or in-person via the Adopting Bitcoin conference, showcasing My First Bitcoin’s emphasis on grassroots funding.
The non-profit takes $0 from governments, contrary to the public perception, and has relied for over 57% of its income on funding from the Bitcoin community.
Open Source Bitcoin Education for the World
My First Bitcoin, also known as Mi Primer Bitcoin, started in 2021 with Bitcoin classes in El Salvador after the Bitcoin Law went into effect.
In June 2022, it kicked off the first 10-week Bitcoin Diploma with 38 public school students in El Salvador. This was the first time a Bitcoin Diploma program existed anywhere in the world in any public school system.
The Bitcoin Diploma has grown rapidly and expanded internationally in the three years since its launch.
The non-profit now collaborates with the Ministry of Education in El Salvador, offering expertise in Bitcoin education, while remaining independent. The Ministry has created its own Bitcoin Diploma using the open-source workbook as its primary source material.
As part of a pilot program with the government, and along with Bitcoin Beach, My First Bitcoin finished the training of 700 public school teachers over the past two years, who will teach the Bitcoin Diploma in their local schools.
My First Bitcoin also launched a self-governing Node Network of front-line Bitcoin educators in March 2023, with over 56 educational projects from more than 30 countries currently using the Bitcoin Diploma.
The network spans across Asia (India, Indonesia), Africa (Zambia, Kenya, South Africa), and South America (Suriname, Argentina, Peru) but also consists of educators in Europe and the USA.
The release of the 2025 edition marks a practical implementation of My First Bitcoin’s mission: To accelerate Bitcoin adoption and independent and impartial financial literacy globally.
The Bitcoin Diploma covers topics varying from the history of money, the emergence of government money, all the problems that today’s fiat money introduced to society and how these issues lead to solutions.
It introduces Bitcoin, the Lightning Network, how to use it in everyone’s daily life, the technical workings and why we need Bitcoin.
Community-led Translations
The 2023 workbook has already been translated into 23 languages, including Korean, Swahili, Luganda, Russian, Tamil, Japanese, and Hindi, by a network of more than 40 international bitcoin educators.
The 2024 workbook has been translated into Italian, Dutch, Slovenian, and a handful of other languages, with for example French and Haitian Creole in the pipeline.
Completely in line with the vision of My First Bitcoin, this is done in a decentralized manner: Community-led.
